COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course led learners through key principles, theories, and models in contemporary curriculum and program design. The focus was on building foundational knowledge and skills necessary for multidimensional analysis of needs and contextual variables to design curricula for a range of relevant ESL/EFL/EAP contexts. COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES As learners we were to demonstrate understanding of and be prepared to: A.identify the effect of philosophies of education on curricular approaches in published documents and articles and in their own teaching, along with the effects of their personal worldview and values, B. analyze how implicit and null curricula, language context(s), digital technologies and multi-literacies, and learner language needs impact curriculum planning and design, C. identify and apply a variety of organizing principles and formulate course goals and objectives in conceptualizing curriculum, D. design/redesign, analyze, and evaluate language learning curriculum for diverse ESL and EFL contexts, and E. research, document, analyze, summarize, and critique literature on language curriculum development. |
