I was humbled by the opportunity to work at University Canada West with Ange Quapp, an alumni of MATESOL from TWU from October to December, 2022. The 10 week internship allowed me to interact, teach and learn with 19 learners (11 male and 8 female) in the EAP course (their IELTS Band score 5.5-6) with the youngest being 18 years old and the oldest around 45 years old.7 students were from India, 2 from Colombia, and Brazil respectively, and 1 student each from Egypt, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Mexico, Pakistan, Tunisia, and Iran. 14 of these students are taking the current course to qualify for the foundation courses to pursue an MBA, 2 for pursuing undergraduate programs, 2 for an Associate of Arts, and 1 for an MBA. While many of them are fresh out of high school and undergraduate programs in their home countries, we also had students who have work experience of more than a decade and were architects, doctors, mechanical engineers, and entrepreneurs by profession. The lesson plans created aimed to encapsulate their cultural and academic backgrounds to prepare them for scholarly writing, reading , speaking and listening.
Each lesson plan has been created using the SHEPERD framework and has links to the presentations used in class and all related material can be found embedded within the lesson plans.
One can also watch the class recording of a lesson. No student appear in the video and permission was taken before recording the class and the class photograph.
Additionally, all reports and evaluation during internship have been added to the documentation folder.
