COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course developed learner understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods and familiarized them with research issues and statistics related to applied linguistics. In addition, learners were guided through the methodology of action Research and the process of topic choice for the major project (to be done in the internship).

As Learners we were to
- Demonstrate understanding of the different purposes for conducting educational research.
- Demonstrate understanding of the different types of designs used for conducting research and the elements of each type, particularly action research.
- Demonstrate understanding of the ethical issues relating to language education research.
- Demonstrate the ability to use one’s knowledge of research designs, ethical issues, and the research process to interpret and evaluate articles describing educational research.
- Demonstrate understanding of the stages of the research process and to apply this understanding to formulate a proposal for conducting action research.
- Develop an appreciation for the role of research in the TESOL field and in their own professional development.
